Doja Cat - Woman

Raw. Invigorating.  Unapologetic. and Disruptive.

Set on the fertile soil of Planet Her, the music film for “WOMAN” is a hyperreal celebration of femininity in all its forms.

Over a loose narrative, we see DOJA CAT and her dancers performing in futuristic African lands.

We will set out to create a performance video offering praise for the beauty, strength, and power of all women.

Concept

Afrofuturist Queen, Angela Basset, lounges in her royal chambers, attended to by a clockwork nail technician. Suddenly the doors fly open to reveal a young exasperated attendant. Chest heaving, she tells her Queen that a group of men are hatching a conspiracy to usurp her throne and end her rule.

Cut to Angela storming through the palace, as she does so, the forms of women emerge from the ground beneath her, a visual representation of her earth-shaking power.

She arrives in the meeting room to find a group of shifty eyed men, at a long marble table, pawing over their diabolical plans. Just then the final member of her earthen army emerges from the ground, Doja Cat, in full Royal-Afrofuturist garb.

Doja strikes her heel on the table top, and the men look up in terror. In a tracking shot she walks toward them, trailed by the other women. They then begin a wild dance number that shakes the building to its foundations. Their movements are wild and unpredictable.

A hawk perched on a window sill surveys the scene. It then takes to the skies, and we follow it’s flight path as it soars over the sweeping rust colored Martian plains.

The hawk takes us into a vast red desert where we find our next set up. Doja and her dancers perform as camera arcs around them, capturing the surreal vastness of their otherworldly surroundings.

The dancer’s bodies are painted with warlike white stripes, which begin to glow as they dance around Doja.

A dust storm begins to form around Doja and the dancers. It lifts Doja up, floating her towards a painted sky.

We cut then to a solo breakdown of Doja Cat at a beach. Close ups capture the rhythm of her body against the endless ebb and flow of the tides. She moves into the water, and it begins to part around her feet. She is an artful extension of the power she has over her surroundings. A natural wonder in female form.

We end on an image of Doja, standing at the base of a budding baobab tree.

As she finished the song she begins to sink into the earth, returning to Planet Her’s womblike embrace.

The tree then blossems with shimmering iridescent flowers.
